Scarinci Hollenbeck Returns to the NJSBA Workshop with a Larger Team

Scarinci Hollenbeck is proud to return to the 2026 NJSBA Workshop, taking place October 19 to 22 at the Atlantic City Convention Center. Hosted by the New Jersey School Boards Association and co-sponsored by the New Jersey Association of School Administrators and the New Jersey Association of School Business Officials, the Workshop is one of the state’s most significant gatherings of board members, administrators, and education professionals.

This year, our firm joins as a Gold Sponsor, exhibitor, and presenter, with attorneys leading three sessions on special education, district leadership, and board ethics. It is also a milestone for us: our first Workshop since Mark A. Tabakin and his team joined the firm, and we’ve added more attorneys who work with New Jersey’s boards of education every day.

Why the 2026 NJSBA Workshop Matters to Us

The NJSBA Workshop brings together thousands of school leaders from across New Jersey to learn, collaborate, and share strategies that strengthen public schools. This year’s theme, “Charting the Path, Empowering Journeys,” reflects what boards and administrators face every day: steering their districts through new legal, financial, and operational questions.

Scarinci Hollenbeck has represented educational institutions since the firm’s founding in 1988 and has long supported this event. Our Education Law practice advises boards of education, charter schools, and school administrators on governance, ethics, special education, collective negotiations, and labor and employment matters. The Workshop gives our attorneys the chance to meet the people they serve in person and to hear firsthand what districts are working through.

Our First Workshop Since Mark Tabakin and His Team Joined the Firm

This year’s Workshop is the first since Mark A. Tabakin and his team of six attorneys joined Scarinci Hollenbeck in June. Mark has spent more than three decades counseling New Jersey’s public entities, serving as general counsel, education counsel, labor counsel, and chief negotiator, and appearing before the New Jersey Department of Education and the School Ethics Commission.

Attendees can meet Mark at the Workshop, where he will co-present a session on board ethics alongside Education Law Chair John G. Geppert, Jr.

Visit Us at Booth #411 in the Partner Pavilion

Our team will be back at Booth #411 in the Partner Pavilion, the same spot as last year, to meet attendees, answer questions, and talk through the legal developments affecting New Jersey’s school districts. The exhibit floor is open Tuesday, October 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Wednesday, October 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Stop by to meet our attorneys, including Mark A. Tabakin, at his first Workshop with the firm.

Speaking Engagements at the 2026 NJSBA Workshop

Our attorneys will lead three sessions during the Workshop. Mark your calendars for the following presentations:

Tuesday, October 20, 9:30 AM to 10:15 AM: “Board Strategies for Winning Due Process Hearings“ presented by Kevin M. Cuddihy and Nathanya G. Simon in Room 313 – Learning Lab. Due process hearings carry significant legal, financial, and operational stakes. This Learning Lab offers practical, experience-based guidance on the burden of proof, how it shapes case strategy, and how to prepare and present a successful case. The session offers Board Member Academy credit.

Tuesday, October 20, 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM: “Top Tips for School District Leadership“ presented by Kevin M. Cuddihy and Brittany P. Tarabour in the Legal, Labor Relations and Policy Lodge. This interactive fireside chat explores today’s public-sector communications challenges, including crisis public relations, funding management, and running successful public meetings. Expect 20 minutes of practical insights followed by 10 minutes of audience Q&A.

Wednesday, October 21, 11:15 AM to 12:15 PM: “Pathways to Integrity: Managing Board Ethical Dilemmas“ presented by John G. Geppert, Jr. and Mark A. Tabakin in Room 404. This group session reviews recent ethics decisions and opinions affecting school board members through real-world dilemmas and practical strategies for avoiding missteps, with time for audience questions. The session offers ethics credit for Board Member Academy and Qualified Purchasing Agent.
