212-286-0747 dbrecher@sh-law.comNew York, NY, September 26, 2014 – Today, Birch Family Services Board members, staff and consumers rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange. Dan Brecher, Chair of Scarinci Hollenbeck’s Investment Banking Group, has previously served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Birch for ten years, and is now Vice Chairman of the Board. His close involvement, both as a parent of a person served and as a Board member, has allowed him to see up close how Birch has changed the lives of so many children, and also their families— more than 15,000 families have been helped in the last 40 years!
Founded in 1975, Birch Family Services has grown from one small school into a large network of programs at 23 sites employing 1,000 people and serving a wide range of New Yorkers who face significant challenges dealing with autism and other developmental disabilities. Through an extensive range of educational services, residential and family support programs, Birch enables adults and children to achieve their full potential – while also enriching their lives. The New Frontier is Birch’s program for training and employment of those over the age of 21 and on the autism spectrum so that they can develop and maintain successful social relationships, get and keep a job and live as independently as possible. Birch has been successful in placing our consumers in jobs at a member firm of the New York Stock Exchange, and that success was part of the celebration at the opening bell today. More information about Birch can be found at www.birchfamilyservices.org.
