New Jersey State Bar Association Appoints Pinguelo as Privacy Law Committee Chair

Scarinci Hollenbeck Partner Fernando Pinguelo Appointed New Chair of the Privacy Law Special Committee of the NJSBA

Lyndhurst, NJ, October 17, 2013 – Scarinci Hollenbeck is pleased to announce that Partner Fernando Pinguelo, chair of the firm’s Cyber Security and Data Protection group, has been appointed on August 6, 2013 to serve as Chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Privacy Law Special Committee. Pinguelo will serve as committee chair through August 2014.

The New Jersey State Bar Association’s Privacy Law Special Committee consists of New Jersey lawyers from around the State who practice in the areas or privacy and data security law. The Committee provides a forum for discussion and information about sophisticated and practical concepts of privacy law, information security, and data protection, and how they impact a broad spectrum of law. “I thank the NJSBA for its continued commitment to the Privacy Law Committee and I look forward to working with other attorneys in the privacy and cyber security fields in accord with the Committee’s mission,” said Pinguelo. “The complex and sometimes conflicting obligations imposed by data protection and privacy laws that apply at the federal and individual state levels – and globally – can be challenging for lawyers and their clients seeking to comply with clients’ privacy and data security obligations.  We will continue New Jersey’s tradition of being at the forefront of these issues and contribute meaningfully to the development of the law in this area.”

Pinguelo is also co-chair of Scarinci Hollenbeck’s Crisis & Risk Management Group. He has extensive experience as a trial attorney, and has garnered a national and international reputation as one of the pioneers of the emerging practices of cyber law and electronic discovery (eDiscovery). Several local, national, and international syndications have recognized or otherwise profiled Pinguelo for his work, including The New York Enterprise Report who awarded him its Technology Lawyer of the Year award, and Law Technology News who identified him as one of only a few U.S.-based attorneys with advanced experience in managing privacy and security issues. Recently,

Recently, Pinguelo addressed the Brazilian Escola Paulista da Magistratura and provided the São Paulo judiciary with an executive summary on President Barack Obama’s February 12, 2013 Executive Order on Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity.

Fernando’s numerous published book chapters and articles in his areas of practice reflect the depth of his knowledge and understanding of the issues that his clients face, from both business and legal perspectives. He is also the founder of the ABA Journal award-winning blog eLessons Learned – Where Law, Technology & Human Error Collide (www.eLLblog.com) and its companion blog eWhite House Watch – Where Law, Technology & Politics Collide (www.eWHWblog.com).

Subscribers to the New Jersey Law Journal can read The Bar Report, where the NJLJ puts Pinguelo in the hot seat for an up-close and personal Q&A on trends, hot issues, and plans for the future of the Privacy Law Committee.
