Place Your Bets! Gov. Phil Murphy Signs NJ Sports Betting into Law

On June 7, 2018, the New Jersey Legislature unanimously approved a measure to legalize sports betting throughout the state. The vote came just weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court sided with New Jersey in the state’s seven-year battle to overturn the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) and legalize sports wagering.

On May 2, 2018, The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) announced revisions to its Sanction Guidelines to reflect changes to General Principle No. 2.  FINRA now advises that when the current violation and a respondent’s disciplinary history, including a history of arbitration awards and arbitration settlements, form a pattern, adjudicators should consider imposing more stringent sanctions.

EPA Launching Electronic System to Track Hazardous Waste

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is creating a new national system for tracking hazardous waste shipments electronically. The system, known as e-Manifest, is expected to launch on June 30, 2018. Regulated entities, including hazardous waste generators, transporters, brokers, and receiving facilities, should be preparing to comply with the new requirements.
