Sports Attorney Anthony Caruso Certified NFL Agent

New York, NY, September 18, 2014 – Anthony R. Caruso, Esq., partner and chair of the Sports, Media & Entertainment Law Group of Scarinci Hollenbeck LLC, has been officially certified as a NFLPA Contract Advisor, otherwise known as a certified NFL Agent.

Within the process to become an NFL Agent a test administered in Washington, D.C. is required. When Caruso was asked why he decided to take the time and go through the process to become certified as a NFLPA Contract Advisor he replied, “I am constantly approached by friends and clients and asked to provide advice on selecting and dealing with NFL agents. I realized that perhaps I should step up and follow my own advice on how to represent NFL players in an honest but aggressive manner. For me, integrity comes first.”

Caruso is uniquely positioned to represent pro football players because of his extensive experience in sports and business law. As a prominent sports, media, & entertainment attorney based in the New York City / New Jersey area, he previously served as an NFL Agent for several pro players from 1994 to 2000. “I enjoyed protecting the interests of the professional athlete both on and off the field”, says Caruso.

Caruso relinquished his certification to pursue a once in a lifetime business venture, but subsequently decided to return to the sports agent scene. “I guess I missed the challenges of being a football agent” says Caruso. “I feel that I have a lot more to offer pro players than the average agent. Besides being a former agent and having over 25 years as a business attorney, I also teach sports related courses at NYU and have significant experience in negotiating complex transactions relevant to the professional athlete. And, I happen to be the parent of a current college football player at a Division I program.”

Caruso also previously founded and served as legal counsel to a new sports league, where he later became the commissioner. He gained international attention in his representation of Miss New Jersey 2007 regarding a blackmail situation over Internet photos. Mr. Caruso provided all legal counseling and negotiations, strategy, media supervision, and crisis management in that case. He has appeared on various programs including NBC, FOX, MSNBC and E! News, and is routinely requested by the media for his advice and views on current sports/legal issues.
