EBRU-TV Invites Partner Robert E. Levy to Discuss Controversial Arizona and Ferguson Shootings

Lyndhurst, N.J., September 5, 2014 – Scarinci Hollenbeck Partner Robert E. Levy recently appeared as a guest on EBRU-TV’s compelling series, “Fresh Outlook,” to provide legal commentary on current issues concerning constitutional law and gun rights. Mr. Levy and a distinguished panel discussed the accidental firearm instructor shooting by a nine-year-old girl in Arizona, as well as the lawsuit filed against the Ferguson police department for the shooting death of Michael Brown. In addition, the panel touched upon the sister of the Boston bombing suspect who was recently arrested and charged for making a bomb threat in New York City.

“Given the nature of the current political and legal issues confronting national news media streams, I was excited for the opportunity to analyze these recently disputed, highly-publicized cases,” mentioned Mr. Levy. He continued, “I look forward to working more closely with EBRU-TV in the future.”

Mr. Levy and the panel analyzed issues raised from these cases and debated who is responsible for the incidents. The panel first discussed the shooting in Dolan Springs, Arizona where a nine-year old girl accidentally shot her firearm instructor with a fully-automatic, 9 mm Uzi. The panel debated the questions: Should there be an appropriate age limitation set when handling a gun? As well as, who’s to blame, the parents, the instructor, or both? Mr. Levy asserted that the problem lies with both the parents and the instructor.

Mr. Levy also spoke on the current lawsuit filed against the Ferguson, Missouri police department that stems from the August 9th shooting of 18-year old Michael Brown, as a result of alleged deadly force used by police officer Darren Wilson. Mr. Levy commented, “Once we heard that there was a tape recording of shots being fired, the critical element here is going to be: What did the officer say before he knew there was a recording?”

Robert E. Levy is a certified Civil and Criminal Trial Attorney and Chair of Scarinci Hollenbeck’s Litigation Group. He regularly appeared on CourtTV (now known as TruTV) to comment on various high-profile, legal cases. Mr. Levy’s practice includes jury and non-jury trial preparation and trials with emphasis upon complex civil and criminal matters including Labor and Employment Defense, Commercial and Corporate Litigation, Criminal Litigation and Civil Rights Litigation. Mr. Levy has also appeared in various federal and state courts nationwide.
