Biography
Michael Mietlicki is Counsel in the Litigation Department, where he focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation and business disputes. He represents clients in New Jersey and New York in matters involving business divorce, ownership and control disputes, breach of fiduciary duty, corporate governance, and other conflicts involving closely held businesses.
Michael represents business owners, companies, shareholders, partners, LLC members, and fiduciaries in a broad range of commercial disputes. His experience includes matters involving ownership rights, management and control, contractual obligations, business assets and accountings, as well as breach of contract, business torts, intellectual property and trade secrets, unfair competition, defamation, and commercial landlord-tenant disputes. He also handles related trust, probate, and estate matters when business ownership and succession intersect.
Michael represents clients in state and federal courts, as well as in mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. His experience includes Chancery Division matters involving emergency and equitable relief to protect business assets, enforce contractual or ownership rights, and preserve the status quo.
Michael approaches business disputes with both legal and commercial objectives in mind. He works closely with clients to assess risk and leverage, understand the business interests driving a dispute, and develop litigation strategies designed to protect business and contractual interests while pursuing practical resolutions.
In addition to his litigation practice, Michael advises businesses and entrepreneurs on contracts, governance, regulatory risk, advertising and consumer-protection issues, and environmental marketing claims. He has also counseled nonprofit, media, and creative clients on matters involving brand protection, public communications, governance, and litigation risk.
Michael earned his J.D. from New York University School of Law, where he served as an articles editor of the NYU Journal of Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law. He earned his B.A., with a concentration in music, from Sarah Lawrence College.
