Scarinci Hollenbeck is proud to congratulate senior associate Roshan D. Shah on his recent commendation by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.

Roshan D. Shah successfully defended a federal lawsuit brought against the New Jersey State Police, Colonel Joseph R. Fuentes, and five troopers. Before joining Scarinci Hollenbeck, Mr. Shah was a New Jersey Deputy Attorney General in the Division of Law Corrections and State Police where he defended public entities and employees in civil litigation. In a letter dated October 5, 2015, Major Mark A. Wondrack, the Commanding Officer of the Office of Professional Standards, noted that (Roshan’s) “dedication and professionalism as described by the Office of Professional Standards staff members is greatly appreciated and did not go unnoticed.” The case was captioned Coles v. Carlini, et al., and was filed in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.

A distinguished litigator and trial attorney, Mr. Shah was awarded the 2015 New Jersey Attorney General’s Award for Trial Excellence. In his role as Deputy Attorney General, he defended against claims arising under the federal Civil Rights Act of 1871, the New Jersey Civil Rights Act, the Law Against Discrimination, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Conscientious Employee Protection Act, the Open Public Records Act, and the New Jersey Tort Claims Act. He also defended New Jersey’s Gun Control Law from Second Amendment challenges in both federal and state courts. In addition, Mr. Shah has successfully tried cases to juries in federal and state courts. He has extensive experience in all facets of litigation and in a variety of forums, including federal and state trial courts, the New Jersey Appellate Division and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, where he has represented multinational corporations, federal defense contractors, health care providers and public sector clients.

Notably, Mr. Shah was a member of the defense team in Burgos v. Governor Christie, et al., the historic and high-profile pension litigation case decided earlier this year. Mr. Shah has also has a wealth of experience in several other areas of litigation. Prior to working in government service, Mr. Shah worked as a defense attorney for pharmaceutical manufacturers in product defect cases. He has also successfully represented landowners in class action lawsuits against the United States for claims under the National Trail Systems Act, and has also represented secured lenders in bankruptcy cases and commercial matters.
