Scarinci Hollenbeck Successfully Negotiates Settlement In Charity Case

Hurricane Sandy Relief Foundation Case Settled

Scarinci Hollenbeck would like to congratulate its partner Robert E. Levy and the litigation group that he chairs for their successful resolution of the highly contested case involving the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund (HSRF) and the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs.

In this well publicized case, Robert E. Levy negotiated a complete settlement, resulting in no finding of liability against HSRF or its principals. The New Jersey Attorney General’s complaint had requested severe and penal injunctive relief against the defendants. However, the resulting settlement permits the HSRD principals to participate in the distribution of charitable funds to needy New York and New Jersey area recipients whose lives had been impacted by Hurricane Sandy. The agreement required some voluntary restrictions on the defendants, but Scarinci Hollenbeck was able to ensure that any monetary penalties were stayed and would thereafter be vacated following compliance with the agreed restrictions.
