Little Falls, NJ – October 19, 2023 – Scarinci Hollenbeck is pleased to announce that Daniel T. McKillop, Chair of the Firm’s Cannabis Law practice group, has been named to the Cannabis Law Report’s 2023 Global Top 200 Psychedelics Lawyers list.

The Cannabis Law Report’s second annual publication features lawyers that it considers to be the best legal minds in the psychedelics industry, whether they come from a policy, corporate, regulatory, or criminal background. The legal directory also includes individuals at medical psychedelic companies with legal and policy skill sets, as well as individuals from universities, the media, and other backgrounds.

Already a seasoned cannabis attorney, Mr. McKillop is now at the forefront of the rapidly evolving psychedelics space. Mr. McKillop co-founded the New Jersey State Bar Association’s (NJSBA) Psychedelic Law Subcommittee and also recently co-authored an op-ed article for NJ.com, entitled “A Case for Legalizing Therapeutic Psychedelics.”

Although psychedelics like psilocybin and MDMA have the potential to be breakthrough medical treatments, they remain classified as Schedule 1 substances under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), which means that they are illegal to produce, sell, possess, or consume without special government authorization. Legal reforms are underway to expand scientific research, facilitate medical access, and decriminalize psychedelics.

“Psychedelics have shown great promise in treating conditions like addiction, depression, and PTSD. As efforts to clear regulatory obstacles and improve access to psychedelics advance, there will be tremendous opportunities,” said Mr. McKillop. “It is an exciting time, and I am proud to be working in such a cutting-edge area of law.”
