Scarinci Hollenbeck Cyber Law Attorney Fernando M. Pinguelo Appears on WPIX-11 to Address Counterfeit Tweets

WPIX-Channel 11 News at 10 taps Pinguelo, Cyber Law Attorney, for his legal insight on how a website offers its users an easy way to impersonate Twitter accounts and jeopardize online reputations.

On Monday, April 29, 2013, Scarinci Hollenbeck Partner Fernando M. Pinguelo, Chair of the firm’s Cyber Security & Data Protection Group, appeared on New York’s WPIX-Channel 11, 10 O’clock news to discuss legal issues implicating online identity, privacy, and protection in the context of the rising popularity of websites designed to facilitate the impersonation of online social network users. WPIX-11 reporter Mario Diaz’s report, “Faking a tweet? It can be done in seconds,” exposes this threat to one’s identity and offers ways to protect your name online.

These websites are designed to offer simple ways to generate a custom Twitter-like message under any Twitter user’s handle. With websites such as these, anyone can put words into the mouth – or on the fingers – of his or her best friend, favorite celebrity, or co-worker they are looking embarrass or otherwise harass by generating a scandalous post purporting to have been sent by the victim of the impersonation.

Attorney Fernando M. Pinguelo focuses his law practice to online legal issues such as those implicating cyber security and data privacy, including social media accounts. Cases and lawsuits Pinguelo has handled have garnered him a national and international reputation as one of the pioneers of the emerging practices of cyber law and electronic discovery (eDiscovery).
